How's your attitude? | |
Planes need to be 'trimmed' or 'balanced in flight'. After flying through storms, they get knocked out of alignment and need to be adjusted. And the same thing happens on our spiritual journey. The storms of life can knock us out of alignment. Unexpected situations like illness, unemployment, relationship break-ups, and death can force us to change our direction and strategy. These storms can cause disappointment and bitterness to come into our lives. And those things can lead us to have bad attitudes. We start to complain, see everything through a negative filter, and compare our situation with others' situations. But Paul writes, 'You must have the same attitude...Jesus had.' That might seem a pretty big ask. How can we have the same attitude as Jesus? We need to make it a priority and pursue it each day. Joshua wanted to turn an army of complainers into an army that could conquer the Promised Land. So God gave him this formula for success: 'Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night...be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do' (Joshua 1:8 NLT). When we're reading the Bible, and memorising verses, we can change our attitudes, thoughts, and behaviours. The Bible contains so much wisdom and encouragement for us as we live our lives, and face the storms that will inevitably come. As we become more and more rooted in the Bible, and focus on going deeper in relationship with God, our wrong attitudes will become right attitudes, and our lives will begin to move in the right direction. | |
