Pieter van Wijk has 20 years of experience in radio broadcasting, and we are honoured to have him on the Radio Pulpit team for the past five years.
Pieter got saved as a young man and immediately knew what his purpose in life was; called to preach the gospel.
I did not have the opportunity to grow up in a Christian home. I learnt one thing, it does not matter where you come from, it is what God can do for you and through you.
As a young man, he wanted to become a mechanical engineer. He started his studies, but later realised that there is only one road to follow: Ministry! “That was what I did and I pursued a career in ministry. I served in several local churches in and around South Africa,” he says. He also ministered in churches in the United Kingdom.
Pieter’s experience in broadcasting covers two decades. He was a presenter at three local radio stations as a minister of the gospel. He also presents educational programmes. Pieter recalls that his father had a burning desire to be a presenter at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, the SABC, but never had the opportunity to do so. Pieter initially thought that he would never be a presenter on radio, even when he received training on how to speak on the radio during his first year of theological studies. Years later, in 2001, one of his fellow ministers invited him to stand in for him as a last resort. This was the start of his journey with radio, and the rest is history.
His purpose in life is to show Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. To bring the message of hope to all people and make a profound difference in the lives of others. He hopes to impact our community in such a way that listeners will find peace and love, and above all Christ as Saviour.
