Bybelkennis Radio Pulpit

Professor Jan van der Watt has been part of the Radio Pulpit family since 1986. He is a retired lecturer and award-winning author.

He was initially involved as a guest on various programmes, but in 2000 he presented Wat sê die Bybel. He did this until 2009, when he emigrated to the Netherlands. Ten years later, in 2019, he returned to South Africa and is now the presenter of Bybelkennis.

He studied at various universities in South Africa and obtained two doctorates, one in theology and the other in Greek. From 1980 until 1986, he lectured at the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape. After this, he moved to the University of Pretoria, serving as the New Testament professor from 1986 until 2009. From 2009 he worked in the Netherlands as a professor at the Radboud University Nijmegen. He retired in 2018 and returned to South Africa.

The professor is also a well-known author and editor of Christian books. He has nearly 40 popular books under his belt. Among those are books like Die Boodskap, Die Bybel A-Z, Die Apokriewe van die Bybel, Ontdek die Nuwe Testament, Die Nuwe Testament vir Kinders, My Eerste Boodskap and many more. He has received many awards for his work, including the Totius Award, the Andrew Murray Award and the Jan H. Marais Award.

The riches of God’s message and love excites him. He is grateful for every opportunity the Lord gives him to share the Gospel. “The Bible is the foundation of Christian life because it is in the Word where one gets to know the true revelation of God in Christ,” he says. Therefore, his programme focuses on the Bible and understanding the message of the Bible.

You can tune in with Prof Jan van der Watt on Radio Pulpit for Bybelkennis on Thursday from 11:00 until midday.
